Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme 2022-2023

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for higher education to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of financing their education. Scholarships are awarded on a partial basis through a competitive application process once a year.

Any university except universities in UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, Norway and Ireland.

Field of study in Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship

The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master’s level courses but is willing to consider applications for PhD programs. Applications for short-term courses are not considered.

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship

Target group:

Nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Mozambique are eligible to apply in France, Portugal, and the UK; nationals of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Syria may apply in Canada; those from Madagascar may apply in India. Those with an interest in development-related studies may apply for scholarships in any one of these countries if they can demonstrate that they have no other means of funding their education.

Scholarship value/inclusions/duration:

Students receive only partial funding through the AKF. Students have to fund their own travel expenses to and from university. Funding for PhD programs is provided for only two years in a row, after which students have to continue with their studies without the financial support of AKF.

The scholarship is divided into half. The co-signer needs to repay this amount in installments with an annual interest rate of 5% over five years, starting six months after the period of study funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Eligibility Criteria:

Geographic Scope

The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. In the USA and Canada it is possible to apply if you are interested in completing studies in a development-related field with nowhere else to turn for funding. Approved applicants receive 100% financial support for their first year of study and must commit to returning to their country upon completion of their studies.

Residency Requirement

The US Aga Khan Foundation only accepts applications of eligible nationals listed above who are residing in the United States, where there is a local Aga Khan regional office that processes applications and interviews candidates.
